MARTINSTOWN ~ The Book

This is the story of a particularly attractive Dorset village in the South Winterborne Valley. It is not remote, but still essentially rural and individual....

The book describes in outline its early history, and in more detail the daily life of villagers in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Varied personal memories bring to life the different concerns and interests in the village in every decade since 1900, culminating in the excitement of the enthusiastic Millennium celebration.

The last part describes Martinstown as it is in the year 2000, its farming concerns and diverse community activities, and its hopes for the future.
