FONT NOTES
A round bowl with chamfered edge, band of herring-bone cable decoration on curved underside and band of conventional scallops or gadroons enclosing flowers or leaves, late 12th Century, stem and base modern. The repairs to the edges suggest the forced removel of font locks. See Puddletown for further details.

GENERAL DETAILS
Of this place, Aurther Mee wrote "Chilcombe. It is a hamlet dropped in a meadow, easily missed. A grass grown track leads over rolling country from the Dorchester highway to a group of farm buildings, and on closer inspection one of these proves to be a little ancient church, without either tower or spire. By it is a 16th century farmhouse, once the manor, and opposite are barns and stables; that is all. Here is one of the tiniest churchyards in the world; a few graves in the shade of a yew. On a hill beyond... an earthworks, formerly a Saxon camp against the Danes."
